JTC Corporation launches Surface Engineering Hub (29 June 2012)

JTC Corporation has launched a new $50 million hub to serve the surface engineering industry.

Dubbed as the Surface Engineering Hub (SEH), this high-rise multi-tenanted manufacturing facility located on a 1.88 ha site at Tanjong Kling will host an integrated ecosystem of companies in the surface engineering industry. This integration will promote the sharing of know-how to drive collaborative growth opportunities. The companies include surface finishers and plating technology researchers. Tenants of the SEH will benefit from a centralised wastewater treatment plant that will reduce their space requirements and upfront capital investment on top of accelerating the start-up of their operations.

Four companies signed letters of interest yesterday. One of the four companies was Stella Specialty Chemicals. Its chairman of the board Yin Xi Jiang told BT that the centralised wastewater treatment plant would help reduce operating costs over time. He added that being in the SEH allows him to be close to his customers.

Stella receives investment funds from Innomart Pte Ltd and New Asia Investments (May 2012)

Raised investment fund from Innomart Pte Ltd (100% owned subsidiary / commercial arm of Singapore Polytechnic) and New Asia Investments (a German-Singapore joint venture with joint funding from Singapore Government National Research Foundation – NRF).

Approvals from NEA, GST Registration, Manufacturing Facility Application to JTC, IRAS Approval, MOM Factory Registration and WPOL/EPOL Account Approvals (February to April 2012)

Hazardous Substances License Approvals with NEA.

The license of various key controlled chemicals for our manufacturing operations was approved. Stella staffs have also taken and passed the NEA required Hazardous Substances Management course and are now deemed competent representatives of the company. The license is approved for our Ayer Rajah Crescent manufacturing site for the import, export, retail and manufacturing of specialty chemicals.

GST registration (volunteer)

Chemicals are expensive, and the majority of our suppliers are importers and are also GST registered. If we are not GST registered, we have to fully absorb the GST purchases and cannot claim any GST offset from our customers. Therefore, Stella is now GST registered as of 1 May 2012 and will have to file IRAS F5 reports on our GST transactions periodically.

JTC Flatted Factory at Ayer Rajah Crescent

Application was made with JTC for the set-up of a manufacturing facility at Blk 55 Ayer Rajah Crescent, JTC flatted factory. The application was thoroughly screened by JTC and required NEA Central Business Planning Division to approve the location before JTC offered Stella the site for rent. Finally we got the approval for lease.

Setup Electronic Accounting Software system – AutoCount (IRAS approved)

$1500 grant from IDA to subsidize the cost of the accounting software, installation and training.

MOM factory registration & WPOL/EPOL account approvals.

To increase the employment options for Stella, we have applied for WPOL & EPOL accounts from MOM, also registering our Ayer Rajah Crescent site as a factory.
